Budgens - Best fresh and chilled convenience retailer of the year
For the second year running, Budgens has been crowned BEST FRESH AND CHILLED CONVENIENCE RETAILER OF THE YEAR for its impressive track record in fresh foods and illustrating it has "the X-factor in terms of overall approach", according to judges.

They were especially impressed by the retailers focus on local sourcing and its strategy to reduce waste In the last year alone, we have implemented a huge range of innovations in fresh foods with many stores introducing a Food Court concept, offering convenience shoppers fresh smoothies, juices, Lavazza coffee, hot fresh food and made-to-order baguettes.  It has also improved fresh fixtures, introduced in-store zoning, developed its free range and organic offering, shown unwavering support for local suppliers through new range launches and company policy, upgraded the Budgens own label range, introduced FSA traffic light food labelling in fresh, and removed hydrogenated fat from all fresh own label products.

Budgens plans to provide fresh food "touchpoints" all around the store highlighting unique and premium lines such as Morecambe Bay Potted Shrimps.  It also has launched a policy of highlighting "Seasonal Heroes" during 2007.  These innovations will be "great points of difference for the retailer" in the future, thought judges.
