Newitts
Through an exciting new venture in conjunction with Budgens, the Newitt brand and award winning delicatessen produce, is extending it's horizons and is now available to a far wider audience.
Last year, Newitt's and Budgens launched a fantastic new partnership that will eventually see a significant number of Newitt branded delicatessen counters within the Budgens throughout the country.
Currently available in 15 stores, the Newitt deli counters emulate the standards and quality of food and service achieved at their shop in Thame.
All produce is freshly prepared at Newitt's premises, using the same fine quality ingredients and traditional homemade recipes. Choose from a vast selection of fine quality hams and cold meats, as well as an impressive range of award winning pies, scotch eggs, sausage rolls, pates and coleslaws, to name but a few.

ANOTHER AWARD FOR NEWITTS!
We are delighted to announce that Newitts have been awarded the prize for 'Best UK Family Business' (£1 - £5million turnover) at the National Finals held by Coutts Bank.
This really is a wonderful achievement and many congratulations to the family - and to their small army of staff who work behind the scenes.
BUDGENS SUPPLIER, M NEWITT & SONS, WINS COUTTS FAMILY BUSINESS AWARD
Thame-based butchers and specialist deli supplier to Budgens, M Newitt & Sons Ltd, has won the Prize for Best Family Business, South Region, in the £1-5m turnover category, in the regional final of the Coutts 2005 Prize for Family Business.
The Coutts Prize for Family Business recognises the enormous contribution that family and private businesses make to the
UK
economy and society, and sets out to reward the best of these businesses in a number of categories according to turnover.
Newitt’s was established in the market town of Thame over 40 years ago and has built its reputation on traditional values and quality produce and service. A highly innovative and successful business partnership with Budgens, whereby Newitt’s supply their premium deli products to a growing number of stores, launched in 2003 and has significantly increased the family firm’s turnover.
Hugh Harper, Partner, McKinsey & Company, and Chairman of the Southern Regional Evaluation Committee, commented: “Newitt’s partnership with Budgens and its establishment of the
Newitt
Academy
to train Budgens’ staff, is a fantastic example of innovation by the business. The family has also showed an impressive level of community involvement in providing workshops for local school children to help them understand food and the importance of diet.”
Says Steve Carter, Head of Fresh Food Buying at Musgrave Retail Partners GB: “This is a fantastic accolade and all our congratulations go to the Newitt family. Musgrave GB has a track record of loyal, long-term partnerships and our relationship with Newitt’s is totally consistent with our commitment to local sourcing and to small, specialist suppliers.”
The finals in Coutts Prize for Family Business will be held in June.
BUDGENS BOXES UP NEWITT’S PIES AND QUICHES
The award-winning partnership between Budgens and M Newitt and Sons has taken on an added dimension with the launch of packaged Newitt pies and quiches.
The family butcher and fine food firm has packaged a range of two large quiches and three individual hot pies, which means that these premium chilled products are now available at 140 Budgens stores without a delicatessen.
Made at Newitt’s kitchen at the family shop in Thame, the dark green, white and gold packaging emphasises premiumness and provenance with a photograph of the family, while a cellophane window on the front of each box shows the home made quality of the products.
Says Musgrave Retail Partners GB buyer, Chris Mutch: “This is an exciting opportunity for us and for Newitt & Sons and it’s great for customers. The quiches and pies are identical to those Newitt’s bake for their specialist shop and they sell so well from our delicatessens that we wanted to make these premium, traditional products available to more of our customers. We’re encouraging them to try the products with multibuy special offers.”

A Highly Rewarding Partnership

Checkout is one of the most influential publications within the food retail industry and the Budgens/Newitts team were up against some stiff competitors including BP and a group of major companies including Coca Cola!
“Through its relationship with butcher and fine food specialist M Newitt, Budgens is helping achieve one of its goals excellence in fresh foods”, said the judges, who were impressed with a “high level of two-way communication” and staff involvement from shop floor to senior management. “You get a good feel of the enthusiasm that lies behind this entry”, said one judge. “It goes way beyond the typical supplier/retailer collaboration that stops at the door of a store”.
And that’s quite an accolade. The next challenge will be the Grocer magazine’s Gold Awards, to be announced in June, in which the Budgens/Newitt’s partnership is on the short list for the Business Initiative Award.
