BUDGENS IN BEDGROVE GOES INDEPENDENT
Paul Wilks, who has worked for Budgens for the past 19 years, has decided to practice what he preaches and has bought the Budgens store in
Jansel Square
, Bedgrove.
Over two years ago, Budgens announced that it would be selling all of its corporately owned stores to progressive independent retailers. The company believes that the best people to run neighbourhood stores are independent retailers with a real interest in their local community. Out of 210 stores, 82 are now owned by independents and about half of those remaining are spoken for, while the company continues to recruit more independent retailers to the Budgens symbol.
Says Paul Wilks: “After working as Head of Development and Maintenance at Budgens and as a Regional Operations Manager, I decided to invest in my own store. Budgens is a real champion of independent retailing, so I saw this as a great opportunity to be my own boss. My new store will continue to offer a genuine alternative to out-of-town superstores and we aim to offer our customers the highest levels of personal and friendly service under the Budgens banner.”
To make ready for its transfer to independent ownership, Bedgrove Budgens has benefited from a major revamp and in addition to a full supermarket range, the store now has an excellent deli counter with awarding winning products from family firm, Newitt’s, a new rotisserie and fresh curry dishes including exclusive recipes by chefs from the celebrated Bombay Brasserie restaurant in London.
Shop at Budgens and you can also help support the British farmer. Budgens’ own label fresh meat is entirely British and all fruit and vegetables, when in season, are also British because Budgens firmly believes in backing the British farmer.
